I Pulled Over So The Dirt Could Worship

Thirsty but tired of spending your life on things that never satisfy? I open Isaiah 55 and let its invitation land the way it was meant to land: come to the waters, come hungry, come empty handed, and let God do what only he can do. We also pause on the line that humbles all of us, “My thoughts are not your thoughts,” and talk about what it means to seek the Lord while he may be found.
From there, I connect the passage to a New Testament hope that changes how we pray day to day: Jesus Christ made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, and the Holy Spirit dwelling within. Isaiah says God’s Word goes out like rain and snow and never returns empty. If you’ve wondered whether Scripture reading and quiet time really make a difference, this is the steady reminder your heart needs.
Then I share a true story from a workday in Colorado Springs when I pulled off the road after a prompting from the Holy Spirit. Thinking about Jesus’ words that even the stones could cry out, I got still and listened and I heard what I can only describe as creation praising God without stopping. It reshaped my worship and it might stretch yours too.
If you want a simple practice to try today, take this with you: step outside, get quiet before the Lord, and listen. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find it.

Greeting And A Promise
Chaplain TerryHello friend, Chaplain Terry Warner here. Hope you're having a good day today.
Isaiah 55 Invitation To The Thirsty
Chaplain TerryI am. I'm gonna read a a chapter out of Isaiah that I really have liked, and I'm gonna tell you a little story. Isaiah fifty five invitation to the thirsty. Come all you who are thirsty, come to the waters, and you who have run you have run, and you who have no money, come buy and eat. Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the riches of fare. Give ear and come to me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. See I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of the peoples. Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations that do not know you will listen, will hasten to you, because of the Lord your God, the holy one of Israel, for he has showed you his splendor. Seek the Lord while he may be found, call on him while he may be near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the evil man is thought. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will be fartly, he will be freely pardoned. Oh here we go. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts and your thoughts.
God’s Thoughts Higher Than Ours
SpeakerAnd I think about over in first Corinthians. Jesus Christ is made unto me wisdom, righteous, sanctification and redemption. This Old Testament has been fulfilled. I have the mind of Christ. The Holy Spirit dwells inside me. Isn't that neat? Picking up in verse ten. As the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth, and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields and seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes forth from my mouth. It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire, and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. The mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush will grow the pine tree, and instead of the briars the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord's renown, for an everlasting sign which will not be destroyed.
A Roadside Moment In Colorado
SpeakerI was working in Colorado Springs and I had a call from for those of you who don't know, I I used to do commercial refrigeration. And it was in Canyon City, and it was a nice day. Sort of I think sort of fall, cool but not cold. Warm but not hot. It was a nice day. And I'd drive down the road and I'm singing praises to the Lord and praying to the Lord while I'm driving. And the Holy Spirit speaks to me and says, Terry, do you remember when Jesus went into Jerusalem and the Pharisees were telling them that they couldn't praise the name of Jesus? Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. And Jesus said, if we don't do this, the rocks, stones themselves are going to cry out. So the Lord spoke to me, Terry, how would you like to hear the praises of the earth that come up to me 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year. That sounds pretty neat, Lord. I like that. Okay. Pull over the side of the road. You don't want to be dry when you do this. So I pulled over to the side of the road and a little pull-off spot there. They have pull off spots in those mountains where you can pull off and look at scenery and stuff. So I did. And I sat there a few minutes, and the Lord said, All right, get still, get quiet. So I did, and just a few seconds, maybe maybe a minute of quietly praising the Lord. The Lord opened up my spiritual eyes and my spiritual ears, and I heard the praise of the creation going up to heaven. It was something else. It was something else. And after fifty some odd years, I can still recall it and I and I and I listen to it occasionally again when I get down to the press. Well, Terry, how can you do that? And we know the stones don't sing. Oh, do we? We don't know anything. We know Jesus is Lord. We know God with God everything's possible. I'm telling you I heard the earth and the praise, the trees, the rocks, the dirt, everything. Give praise and shout out to the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is Lord.
Learning To Listen In Creation
SpeakerSo get out in the forest, get out in the woods, get out in the backyard, look at the stars, look at the moon, look at the sands on the sea. Get quiet before the Lord and realize you'd like to hear the sound you'd like to hear the praise and worship of the Lord also. You have a blessed day in Jesus' name. Amen.
