God knows your name. Not as a metaphor, not as a nice thought, but as a personal reality that can stop you in your tracks and also steady your heart. We sit with that truth and follow it into Part 2 of “No Longer An Old Sinner But Made A Child Of God,” building a Christian identity that is rooted in Scripture rather than shame, fear, or spiritual guesswork.
We read and reflect on 1 Thessalonians 5, where Paul warns about end times confusion and reminds believers that the return of the Lord comes suddenly, like a thief in the night. Instead of chasing panic or rumors, we focus on what the text actually calls us to: staying awake, watchful, sober, calm, and grounded. If we belong to the day, we live like it. If we are sons and daughters of light, we stop making peace with spiritual sleep.
The thread that ties it all together is redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ the Messiah. God is not appointing us to wrath or selecting us for condemnation; He wants us to obtain His salvation, share His life, and walk with confidence that He is for us. We also land on practical Christian living: encouraging each other, respecting leaders, keeping peace, helping the weak, and staying patient with everyone. SpeakerHello friend, Chaplain Terry Warner here. This will be part two of the no longer an old sinner but a made a child of God series. I'm gonna start with the introduction on one, and then we'll go right into two. Your foundation scripture will be first Thessalonians five, Galatians four, nine, second Corinthians five twenty-one. I remember the time in my life when I came into the knowledge that God, the creator of the universe, the creation of man, and then by reading and studying his word, Jesus, realized that God actually knew my name. The number of hairs on my head, my disposition, my name, and every secret about me that only I know about. He knows them all. You like that introduction? That makes you sit up straight, doesn't it? God's watching you, you better sit up straight. With that introduction in mind, let's listen to God Himself. Using one of His creations, now renamed Paul, to expand and define how our life as a Christian should be lived. But as to the suitable times and precise seasons and dates, brethren, you have no necessity for anything being written to you. You see, this is my comments. There was a forged letter being circulated stating that the end times had already come. Sound familiar? For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the return of the Lord will come as unexpectedly will come as expectantly and suddenly as a thief in the night. When people are saying all is well and secure, and there is peace and safety, then in a moment unforeseen destruction, ruin and death will come upon them as they suddenly as the labor pains come upon a woman and a child, and they shall by no means escape, for there will be no escape. But you are not given up to the power of darkness, brethren, for that day to overtake you by surprise like a thief. For you are all sons or daughters of light, and as sons of the day, we do not belong either to the night or to the darkness. Accordingly, then let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us keep wide awake, alert, watchful, cautious, and on our guard. And let us be sober, calm, collected, and circumspect. For those who sleep sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. But we belong to the day. Therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate or the corslet of faith and love and for a helmet of salvation. For God has not appointed us to incur his wrath. He did not select us to condemn us, but that we might obtain his salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah. This is my comment. You realize God wants you to go to heaven. He doesn't want you to go to hell. He doesn't want you to die without him. He doesn't want you to live without him. He doesn't want you to make it on your own. He doesn't let me rephrase that. Yes, he wants it to make it on your own. But God is not trying to condemn you. That's why it's called the plan of redemption. The plan of being redeemed. The plan of salvation. And that salvation is eternal life. And that eternal life is the majority of the plan. But he also wants us to be victorious and successful on this earth. To dominate it, rule it, control it, and keep it a Christian earth. Sort of an odd term there. God is for us. He's for you. He knows you. He loves you. He thinks the best of you. He is perfect. He's kind. He's tenderhearted. And he knows you as well as anybody. Right, I'll pick back up. For God is not appointed us to incur his wrath. He did not select us to condemn us. But that we might obtain his salvation through our Lord Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Have you ever noticed sometimes in the comments again? Sometimes in the New Testament it says Jesus Christ, and other times it says Christ Jesus. When it says Christ Jesus, don't read that as the King Christ Jesus. If he says Jesus Christ, reads that as Jesus the Messiah. That's just a little tidbit there. Who died for us so that whether we are still alive or dead, at Christ's appearing, we might live together with him and share his life. As he is, so are we in this world. First John 4:17, I think. Has he is he sick? No. Is he broke? No. Is he disgusted? No. Is he unhappy? No. He is love, joy, peace, long suffering, compassionate, and kind. Therefore encourage or admonish or exhort one another. And edify, strengthen and build up one another, just as you are doing. Now also we beseech you, brethren, get to know those who labor among you, recognize them for what they are, acknowledge and appreciate and respect them all, your leaders who are over you in the Lord, and those who warn and kindly reprove and exhort you. And hold them in very high esteem, an intelligent and sympathetic appreciation of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we earnestly beseech you, brethren, admonish, warn, and seriously advise those who are out of line, the loafers, the disorderly, and the unruly. Encourage the timid and faint-hearted, help and give support to the weak soul. And be very patient with everybody, always keeping your temper. But wait, there's more.
