Caught in a cycle of frustration, anger, and outbursts? You're not alone. The "social rollercoaster" that many of us ride—from road rage to social media arguments—follows a surprisingly predictable pattern.

My own wake-up call came when my young granddaughter mimicked my road rage behavior, shouting and shaking her fist at another driver. That embarrassing moment revealed how quickly our negative responses influence others and sparked my journey to understand what I call "social rage."

This pattern often begins with normal, responsible behavior, followed by a series of seemingly minor annoyances—a spilled drink, internet issues, traffic frustrations—that compound until triggering an explosion of anger. Most troubling is how this cycle repeats month after month, trapping us in what I describe as an "infinity rut" or self-dug grave of negative emotions.

Breaking free requires a fundamental shift in perspective and response. When someone cuts me off in traffic now, instead of yelling, I pray for them—for their safety, improved driving, and spiritual well-being. This simple practice transforms not just my response but my entire attitude. While circumstances may not change, our response absolutely can.

Scripture teaches that "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." When we align our speech and actions with biblical principles, we begin climbing out of that self-dug grave of negative patterns. True change comes from within, through accepting Christ and allowing His word to transform our thoughts, words, and actions.

Now, years later, I see on social media that a lot of people are committing the same sin of anger and outbursts towards others, because you could call it social rage.

I decided to dig a little deeper into this occurrence and was somewhat surprised that it could be predicted with great accuracy and easily done.

It is the first of the month and a lot of people are working every day and acting responsible.

Then, after a particularly hard day at work, the person is somewhat down and stops off for some kind of relaxation before going home and opens his door to a little more frustration.

The waitress comes out, trying to be nice and polite but cute and get everybody relaxed, spills a drink on their lap.

They discover they have a flat tire.

Finally you can't take it anymore and lash out at the idiots, who are probably not real people anyway and once again fall into the trap of social rage.

Friend, it is okay and understandable to be outraged and voice your opinion, but you must do it so in a way that will inspire others to be constructive and encouraging to others.

You need to realize that you will never rise higher than your confession, and when you allow yourself to be aggravated by social media junk posts, you are starting the destruction behavior all over again.

What I do now I didn't start out doing this, but what I do now is say somebody pulls in front of me at a stop sign or a red light and I have to slam on my brakes or slow down quite a bit.

I used to yell on my ship, yell and shake my fist and say something I shouldn't have said and shake my fist and say something I shouldn't have said, but all that did was cause big, more outbursts and road rage.

Now, when that happens, I pray for them that they get where they're going safely, that they do not have an accident and that their safe driving will become a habit and they'll eventually come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and will experience that too.

And so I pray for them and I feel pretty good after I do that, I don't get down in my rut, I don't get down in my dumps, I don't get down in my grave and I stay on top of things.
